Heart surgeons test new technique to zap dangerous irregular heartbeat

Summary

This study is testing a specific surgical technique, called a modified left atrial Maze procedure, performed at the same time as other planned heart surgery. The goal is to see if this technique is safe and effective at restoring and maintaining a normal heart rhythm in people with atrial fibrillation (AFib). Researchers will follow 151 patients for a year to check their heart rhythm and quality of life.
