New jaw plate could make fracture repair safer and stronger
NCT ID NCT07590401
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a new type of metal plate for fixing broken jawbones in the front and side areas. The plate is designed to be strong but low-profile, and to avoid damaging a key nerve in the chin. Twenty-two adults with recent jaw fractures were randomly assigned to get either the new plate or standard plates. The researchers measured pain, mouth opening, bone healing, and nerve function to see which option worked better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Modified 3D Rectangular Grid plate
What this could lead to
If successful, this new plate could offer a safer, more stable way to fix certain jaw fractures while protecting a key nerve.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 22 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The new plate may not heal better or could have unexpected issues.
