Virtual reality could revolutionize how midwives learn to assess labor
NCT ID NCT07238205
First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 33 times
Summary
This study tests whether a mixed reality (MR) training program helps midwifery students learn to assess cervical effacement and dilation. Ninety students will use 3D virtual models to practice repeatedly, then be tested on real pregnant women. The goal is to see if MR reduces mental effort, improves skill accuracy, and boosts professional confidence.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
mixed reality education
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that mixed reality is a better way to teach midwifery students cervical assessment, potentially improving clinical training.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage educational study with 90 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It does not test a treatment or cure.
