New study: keyhole valve fix may spare heart patients from second Open-Heart surgery
NCT ID NCT04402931
First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study compared two ways to treat a failed mitral heart valve: a newer, less invasive procedure (valve-in-valve) versus repeat open-heart surgery. Researchers followed 150 adults with severe valve problems to see which approach caused fewer major complications like death or stroke. The goal was to find out if the less invasive option is as safe and effective as surgery in the medium to long term.
