Heart valve repair showdown: which surgery works best?

NCT ID NCT03674593

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two surgical techniques to fix a leaky mitral valve caused by degenerative disease. One method replaces the tiny chords that support the valve, while the other moves existing chords to a better position. The trial will follow 64 adults for one year after surgery to see which approach reduces leakage more effectively.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Mitral valve chordae prosthesis and chordae translocation (surgical procedures)

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show which surgical method is more effective at repairing the mitral valve and reducing leakage long-term.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-center study with only 64 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Surgery always carries risks like infection or bleeding.
