New keyhole surgery could ease neck pain without big incisions
NCT ID NCT06886802
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new, less invasive surgery called Posterior Uniportal Endoscopic Cervical Decompression for people with cervical spinal stenosis—a condition that pinches nerves in the neck, causing pain, numbness, or weakness. The surgery uses a small incision and a tiny camera to relieve pressure on the spine. Researchers will track 50 patients in Mexico over 12 months to see if the procedure improves nerve function and reduces disability, with the goal of offering a safer alternative to traditional open surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Posterior Uniportal Endoscopic Cervical Decompression (minimally invasive surgical procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a safer, less painful surgical option for cervical spinal stenosis, leading to quicker recovery and fewer complications than traditional surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure is still experimental and may not be better than standard surgery.
