Zapping prostate tumors with microwaves: new approach aims to spare side effects

NCT ID NCT03023345

Summary

This study tested a new, targeted procedure using microwaves to destroy the main tumor in men with low-risk prostate cancer. The goal was to see if this approach was precise and safe enough to treat the cancer while causing fewer side effects like urinary and sexual problems compared to standard whole-gland treatments. Researchers used advanced imaging to guide the microwave probe directly to the tumor through the rectum in 11 participants.
