Summary

This study investigates whether a medical procedure called double-filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) can reduce the amount of tiny plastic particles circulating in human blood. Twenty adults who are already scheduled to receive DFPP for other medical reasons will provide blood samples before and after treatment. Researchers will measure changes in microplastic and nanoplastic levels using advanced lab techniques. The goal is to see if this filtering method can effectively remove plastic particles from the bloodstream.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Double-filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) using the IN300 Inuspheresis device

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that plasmapheresis reduces plastic particle levels in blood, potentially pointing toward a method to lower body plastic burden.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study with only 20 participants. It measures short-term changes, not long-term health effects, and may not apply to everyone.
