Can microneedling plus creams fade red stretch marks? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07154030
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This early-stage trial tests whether microneedling combined with either tretinoin 0.025% or timolol 0.5% can improve the appearance of red stretch marks (stria rubra). Researchers will enroll 300 adults and track changes through photos and skin checks. The goal is to see if these combinations work better than microneedling alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
microneedling with tretinoin 0.025% or timolol 0.5%
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more effective way to reduce the appearance of red stretch marks.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial, so results are uncertain. The treatments may not work better than existing options, and side effects like irritation or scarring are possible.
