New chip may pick better sperm for IVF, study hopes to find out
NCT ID NCT07093619
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares a new microfluidic sperm-sorting chip (FERTILE Plus) to the standard density gradient method for preparing sperm used in IVF with genetic testing (PGT-A). Researchers will measure how long each method takes and whether embryos made with chip-sorted sperm are more likely to be chromosomally normal. The trial enrolls 100 women undergoing IVF, using a split-sample design so each sperm sample is processed both ways.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
FERTILE Plus microfluidic sperm sorting chip
What this could lead to
If microfluidic sperm preparation proves faster and yields more chromosomally normal embryos, it could become a standard technique in IVF labs, potentially improving success rates.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (100 participants) comparing two lab methods. Even if microfluidics shows benefits here, results may not translate to higher live birth rates or apply to all fertility cases.
