Common drug may restore Life-Saving low blood sugar alarms

NCT ID NCT03970720

Summary

This study is testing if metoclopramide, a drug already used for stomach problems, can help people with type 1 diabetes who have lost their natural warning symptoms for dangerously low blood sugar (hypoglycemia unawareness). Researchers will give the drug or a placebo to 36 participants for four weeks to see if it improves their body's ability to sense low blood sugar and trigger corrective actions like eating. The goal is to find a safe treatment that reduces the risk of severe, potentially dangerous hypoglycemic episodes.
