Stomach drug may restore low blood sugar warning signs in diabetes

NCT ID NCT03970720

First seen Mar 20, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether metoclopramide, a drug already approved for stomach issues, can help people with type 1 diabetes who have lost the ability to feel low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) symptoms. About 36 adults with type 1 diabetes will take the drug for 4 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in stress hormones and symptom awareness to see if the drug restores the body's early warning system for dangerously low blood sugar.
