Cheap drug trial offers hope for Leprosy's agonizing skin condition

NCT ID NCT03775460

Summary

This study is testing if adding a low-cost drug called methotrexate can help control painful skin flare-ups (ENL) in people with leprosy. It aims to reduce the need for long-term steroid use, which has serious side effects. The trial involves 550 adults with moderate-to-severe ENL across six countries, comparing a year-long methotrexate and steroid regimen against steroids alone.
