Common arthritis drug tested for hand pain relief

NCT ID NCT04579848

Summary

This study is testing whether methotrexate, a medication already used for other types of arthritis, can help control pain and improve hand function in people with a specific, painful form of hand osteoarthritis. About 163 adults in Norway with erosive hand arthritis will take either methotrexate or a placebo pill once a week for a year to see which group experiences better pain relief and hand function. The goal is to see if this drug can help manage this difficult-to-treat condition where standard pain medications often don't provide enough relief.
