Common pain drug tested as secret weapon against tough colon cancer

NCT ID NCT05212012

Summary

This early-stage trial is testing whether adding the pain medication methadone to a standard chemotherapy regimen (mFOLFOX6) can help control advanced colorectal cancer that has stopped responding to other treatments. The study first aims to find a safe dose of the combination, then will compare tumor control rates at 12 weeks between patients receiving the methadone-chemo combo versus chemo alone. It involves a small group of patients whose cancer has progressed despite trying all standard therapies.
