Could a common diabetes drug stop debilitating pregnancy sickness?

NCT ID NCT07129473

Summary

This study is testing whether taking metformin, a medication commonly used for diabetes, before getting pregnant can help prevent severe nausea and vomiting (hyperemesis gravidarum) in women who experienced it in a previous pregnancy. Researchers will enroll 224 women aged 18-49 who are trying to conceive and had this condition before. Half will take metformin daily before and during early pregnancy, while the other half will only complete surveys, to compare outcomes.
