Heart rhythm breakthrough? common diabetes drug may tame irregular heartbeats

NCT ID NCT03603912

Summary

This study is testing whether a diabetes medication called metformin and lifestyle changes can reduce how often and how long patients experience atrial fibrillation (AFib). It involves 175 people who already have heart devices that can monitor their heart rhythm. Researchers want to see if these approaches can help control AFib and prevent it from getting worse over one year.
