Mesh patch aims to stop hernias before they start

Summary

This study is testing if placing a special mesh patch during certain abdominal surgeries is better than using stitches alone at preventing a hernia from forming later. About 477 adults at risk for hernias will be randomly assigned to get either the mesh or just stitches. Researchers will track who develops a hernia, recovery time, and quality of life over two years.
