Menstrual cycle may influence brain pressure during surgery, study finds

NCT ID NCT07539831

First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 05, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This observational study is looking at whether the phase of a woman's menstrual cycle affects the diameter of the optic nerve sheath, which can indicate pressure inside the skull. Researchers will measure this in 110 women having laparoscopic gynecologic surgery and compare those in the follicular phase to those in the luteal phase. They will also track nausea, vomiting, and cognitive function after surgery. The goal is to understand if hormonal changes influence these outcomes.
