Scientists probe hormone link to midlife depression

NCT ID NCT00001231

Summary

This study aimed to understand why some women develop depression and mood disorders during the transition to menopause. Researchers observed and compared over 1,100 perimenopausal women, some with depression and some without, to see if changes in hormones like estrogen were connected to their mood. The goal was to gather information to help design future treatments, but this study itself did not test any new therapies.
