New study tests gentler way to kickstart labor

NCT ID NCT06591247

First seen May 10, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at two ways to help start labor in pregnant women: membrane stripping (a manual technique) and a double balloon catheter (a medical device). The goal is to see if stripping works as well as the balloon for getting the cervix ready for birth. About 400 women will take part, and researchers will measure how many have a successful start to labor within 12 hours and how many deliver within 24 hours.
