Melatonin timing may be key to better sleep, new study suggests

NCT ID NCT07514507

First seen Apr 16, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks at whether taking melatonin earlier (3 hours before bed) and at a higher dose (4 mg) helps healthy adults fall asleep faster and sleep better compared to the usual advice (2 mg, 30 minutes before bed). Fourteen healthy adults aged 18-45 with no sleep problems will be monitored overnight in a sleep lab. The goal is to find the best way to use melatonin for sleep, not to treat a disease.
