Can a sleep hormone soothe a crying baby? new trial investigates
NCT ID NCT07442162
Summary
This study is testing whether melatonin, a natural hormone, can safely reduce long periods of crying in otherwise healthy newborns. Researchers are comparing melatonin drops to a placebo (multivitamin drops) in 165 infants to see if it shortens daily crying time over 28 days. The goal is to find a safe option to ease infant distress and the significant anxiety it causes parents.
