Olive oil and fish: a recipe for a healthier liver?
NCT ID NCT07786831
First seen Aug 26, 2026 · Last updated Aug 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether following a Mediterranean diet for 12 weeks can reduce fat buildup in the liver of healthy young adults aged 20 to 30. Participants are randomly assigned to either a Mediterranean diet or a standard healthy diet, and liver fat is measured using ultrasound at the start, halfway, and end of the study. The goal is to see if this eating pattern can improve liver health and related metabolic measures.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Mediterranean diet intervention
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this diet could offer a simple, non-drug way to protect liver health and prevent fatty liver disease in young people.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study, so results may not apply broadly. Diet adherence can vary, and the 12-week period may be too short to see lasting changes.
