Brain waves and meditation show promise for schizophrenia symptoms
NCT ID NCT07437365
First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tested whether guided meditation combined with binaural beats (special sound frequencies) could reduce negative symptoms of schizophrenia, such as low motivation and social withdrawal. Ninety hospitalized adults took part in a six-week program. Results showed that adding sound stimulation, especially theta-frequency beats, led to greater improvement than meditation alone. While not all results were statistically significant, this low-cost, non-drug approach shows promise and needs larger studies to confirm.
