NCT ID NCT06995937

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at how long-term medical marijuana use, alone or with prescription opioids, affects driving performance in adults aged 50 and older who have chronic pain. Researchers will have 250 participants drive on a real road while a specialist scores their driving errors. The goal is to understand whether these medications impair driving and how older adults manage their medication use and driving behavior.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could provide evidence to guide safe driving recommendations for older adults using medical marijuana and/or prescription opioids.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It measures driving errors but does not test a new drug or therapy, so it won't directly lead to a cure or symptom relief.
