Could a Nerve-Protecting vitamin help save sight in retinal vein blockage?

NCT ID NCT07133438

First seen Feb 25, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding mecobalamin (a nerve-protecting drug similar to vitamin B12) to standard anti-VEGF eye injections can improve vision and reduce the number of injections needed for people with retinal vein occlusion (RVO). About 120 adults with untreated RVO-related macular edema will receive either mecobalamin or a placebo pill for 6 months, alongside their regular injections. The main goal is to see if the combination reduces retinal swelling and improves long-term vision over one year.
