Pioneering prenatal treatment aims to rescue babies from devastating genetic disorder
NCT ID NCT04143295
Summary
This study tests whether starting treatment before birth and continuing after delivery can improve brain development in male infants with MCT8 deficiency, a rare genetic disorder that causes severe intellectual disability and movement problems. The research involves giving a thyroid hormone treatment to pregnant mothers carrying affected male fetuses, then continuing treatment in the infants after birth. The goal is to see if early intervention can reduce the severity of developmental problems typically seen in this condition.
