Scientists test exercise limits in kids with rare metabolic disorder
NCT ID NCT06796530
Summary
This small pilot study aimed to understand how high-intensity exercise affects metabolism and safety in children with Medium-Chain Acyl-CoA Dehydrogenase Deficiency (MCADD), a rare genetic disorder that makes it hard for the body to break down fats for energy. Researchers compared four children with MCADD to four healthy children of similar age and development, having them perform intense cycling and circuit exercises while monitoring their blood sugar, fats, and other markers. The goal was to gather basic safety and metabolic data to better understand how these children respond to physical exertion.
