NICU study: playing Mom's voice to baby boosts bonding
NCT ID NCT07597954
First seen May 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 08, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study tested a simple, non-invasive idea: playing recordings of a mother's voice to her newborn in the NICU, while the mother listens to her baby's sounds. Researchers wanted to see if this two-way voice exposure could improve maternal attachment and breastfeeding success. The study involved 60 mothers and their full-term infants with a breathing condition called transient tachypnea. The intervention was given every 2 hours for 30 minutes starting 6-12 hours after birth. The goal is to learn whether this low-cost, family-centered approach can support emotional bonding and breastfeeding in the NICU setting.
