Scientists probe why breastfeeding hurts: is it bacteria or just inflammation?
NCT ID NCT05794945
Summary
This study aims to gather detailed information about mastitis, a common and painful breast inflammation that affects many breastfeeding mothers. Researchers will observe 300 mothers, collecting milk samples and surveys to learn what bacteria are present and how the body's immune system responds during an episode. The goal is to create better guidelines for diagnosis and treatment, especially to help decide when antibiotics are necessary.
