Scientists probe why breastfeeding hurts: hunt for better mastitis answers
NCT ID NCT05794945
Summary
This study aims to gather detailed information about mastitis, a common and painful breast inflammation during breastfeeding. Researchers will observe 300 mothers, collecting milk samples and surveys to learn if symptoms are caused by bacteria or general inflammation, and how antibiotic treatment affects the breast's microbial environment. The goal is to use this knowledge to create clearer, evidence-based guidelines for diagnosing and treating mastitis, potentially leading to better care and less unnecessary antibiotic use.
