Massage gun vs. Hands-On: which eases neck pain better?
NCT ID NCT07681661
First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This study compares two massage techniques—a handheld percussive massage gun and manual deep friction massage—for treating painful trigger points in the upper trapezius muscle (neck/shoulder area). Researchers will measure pain intensity, neck movement, and disability in 46 adults aged 24–45 with moderate to severe pain. Each participant receives one of the two treatments over two weeks to see which works better.

What this could lead to
If one method proves more effective, it could offer a simpler or faster way to relieve neck pain and improve mobility for people with trigger points.
