New video trick aims to calm terrified tots in the dentist chair

NCT ID NCT07632547

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether showing children a video of a real mouth, alongside the usual 'tell-show-do' method, can lower their anxiety during dental treatment. Eighty children aged 4 to 6 will take part, and researchers will measure their heart rate and use a face scale to see how anxious they feel. The goal is to find a simple, non-drug way to make dental visits less scary for kids.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Tell-Show-Do technique with a simulated real-mouth video

What this could lead to

If it works, this could give dentists a simple, drug-free way to help young children feel calmer during dental visits.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 80 children, so results may not apply to all kids. The video may not reduce anxiety more than the standard approach.
