New balloon treatment aims to keep heart arteries open without permanent stents

NCT ID NCT07326735

Summary

This study tested a special balloon coated with medication (sirolimus) that doctors inflate inside blocked heart arteries. The goal was to see if this treatment could open arteries and prevent them from narrowing again, potentially avoiding permanent metal stents. Researchers followed 360 adults with coronary artery disease for 12 months to measure serious heart problems and the need for repeat procedures.
