Shock therapy maintenance may keep schizophrenia at bay

NCT ID NCT06456983

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether maintenance electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) can prevent relapse in people with schizophrenia that doesn't respond to the strongest medications. About 140 participants who improved after a course of ECT will either continue with maintenance ECT or receive usual care. The goal is to see if maintenance ECT delays or reduces the chance of relapse.
