Magnesium may help lungs breathe easier during surgery
NCT ID NCT07325773
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether giving magnesium sulfate during lung surgery helps keep oxygen levels stable and lungs working well. About 104 adults having video-assisted lung surgery with one-lung ventilation will be observed. Researchers will compare those who get magnesium as part of standard care to those who do not, measuring oxygen levels and lung mechanics.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
magnesium sulfate
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple way to improve breathing and oxygen levels during lung surgery.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so results may be less reliable. It is small and early, so any benefits seen may not apply to all patients.
