First seen Mar 08, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding magnesium sulfate to the local anesthetic bupivacaine improves pain control after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (weight-loss surgery). Sixty-eight adults aged 18-50 with a BMI of 30-50 participated. The results showed that adding magnesium prolonged pain relief, reduced the need for additional pain medication, and shortened time spent in the recovery room and hospital.
