Tiny tastes, big gains: early milk exposure may boost preemie brain and feeding skills

NCT ID NCT07216664

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving very preterm infants (born before 32 weeks) small amounts of human milk by mouth starting at day 3 of life helps them regulate stress, develop better, and learn to feed. About 125 babies will either receive standard care or standard care plus this early milk exposure up to 4 times a day. Researchers will measure stress hormones, brain development, and feeding skills to see if the early milk makes a difference.
