ER ultrasound uncovers silent heart condition in High-Blood-Pressure patients

NCT ID NCT05730309

First seen Jun 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looked at 165 emergency room patients with persistently high blood pressure to see how many had undiagnosed left ventricular hypertrophy (thickened heart muscle) using a bedside ultrasound. Researchers also tested whether telling patients about the finding and giving them a quick referral would improve follow-up care within three months. The goal was to understand how common this hidden condition is and whether it affects different racial, ethnic, or gender groups unequally.
