Doctors test which breathing machine setting better protects lungs during surgery

NCT ID NCT06608602

Summary

This study observed 140 adults having elective chest surgery to compare two methods for setting the breathing machine's air volume. Researchers wanted to see if using a patient's actual lung capacity measurement leads to better oxygen levels during surgery and fewer lung problems afterward compared to using a standard weight-based formula. The study did not test a new treatment but gathered information to help improve standard anesthesia care.
