Trainees' ultrasound may beat X-Ray for spotting collapsed lungs

NCT ID NCT06022081

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests whether medical trainees can use lung ultrasound to detect pneumothorax (a collapsed lung) after chest tube removal in heart surgery and trauma patients. Researchers will compare the accuracy of ultrasound done by novices to standard chest X-rays read by experts. If successful, it could lead to a safer, cheaper, and less painful way to diagnose this serious complication.
