New imaging tech could help preterm babies breathe easier

NCT ID NCT06705257

First seen May 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looks at how different levels of breathing support (PEEP/CPAP) affect lung function in babies born before 32 weeks. Researchers will use a new, radiation-free imaging method called Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) to see which pressure level works best. The goal is to find the optimal support to prevent lung collapse and reduce the need for more invasive breathing machines. About 30 preterm infants on breathing support will take part.
