Doctors search for better gauge of Kids' lung injury

NCT ID NCT06586411

Summary

This study aimed to find the best way to measure lung damage in children with Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (pARDS), a severe breathing condition. Researchers compared a standard measurement (Oxygenation Index) with a new proposed measurement (Oxygenation Stretch Index) in 40 children who were on breathing machines. They checked how well each measurement correlated with other signs of lung injury to see which one was more useful for doctors.
