New lung scanner tested on tiny babies

NCT ID NCT04848727

First seen Apr 29, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tested a new, non-invasive imaging technique called electrical impedance tomography (EIT) to detect collapsed lung (atelectasis) or air leaks (pneumothorax) in newborn babies. Researchers studied 20 infants in the NICU to see if EIT could accurately identify these lung problems. The goal was to improve how doctors diagnose and monitor breathing issues in newborns.
