Could a simple needle rinse be skewing lung cancer diagnoses?

NCT ID NCT07461662

Summary

This study aims to see if the current way doctors clean needles during a common lung cancer biopsy (EBUS) is good enough. Researchers worry that leftover cancer cells on a reused needle could contaminate the next sample, potentially leading to incorrect staging of the disease. They will test if a more thorough cleaning method reduces this risk without harming the quality of the diagnostic samples. All testing uses fluid already collected during the standard procedure, so patients face no extra needles or risks.
