First seen May 21, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at using simple, low-cost communication tools like picture boards and gestures for children with autism or other developmental conditions who cannot speak. Researchers in rural Virginia and western Kenya will work with 500 children and their caregivers to see if these tools improve communication and how well caregivers use them. The goal is to find better ways to support children and families in areas where high-tech devices are too expensive or hard to get.
