Safer steroid eye drops for kids? new study tests two options
NCT ID NCT07496060
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested two different steroid eye drops—loteprednol and prednisolone—in 66 children with inflammatory nodules in the front part of the eye. The goal was to see if loteprednol could control inflammation as well as prednisolone while causing fewer increases in eye pressure. Children used the drops four or six times a day and were monitored for three months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Loteprednol etabonate 1% and prednisolone acetate 1% eye drops
What this could lead to
If loteprednol works as well as prednisolone but with less risk of high eye pressure, it could become a preferred treatment for this condition.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed Phase 4 trial with only 66 children, so results may not apply to all patients. Both drugs are steroids and can still raise eye pressure or cause other side effects.
