New hope for babies born addicted: testing a drug to ease their pain

NCT ID NCT06047834

Summary

This study is testing a medication called lofexidine to see if it is safe and can help reduce withdrawal symptoms in newborns exposed to opioids in the womb. It will involve 24 newborns who are showing signs of withdrawal. Researchers will compare babies receiving the new medication plus standard care to those receiving standard care alone to find the right dose and check for side effects.
