Breakthrough trial aims to free liver patients from lifelong drugs
NCT ID NCT03164265
Summary
This study tested whether a special cell infusion from the donor could help liver transplant patients safely stop taking lifelong anti-rejection drugs. Sixteen patients received the infusion before transplant and were then slowly taken off their standard medications over several years. The main goal was to see if patients could live drug-free without their bodies rejecting the new liver.
